Editor's Notes:
---------------

One more week!! I get vacation in one more week!! *cheers* Man, do I ever
need it too!!

Those of you who were interested in getting the Rush tribute album, "Working
Man: A Show of Bands," it came out this week. George plays on "Anthem."
I would suggest going out and getting it ASAP, because Rush is still trying
to have it recalled. I haven't heard it yet, but I have heard that George
does a GREAT job!

I'm lonely this week, with both Gerard and Robin on a little break from BTC.
Gerard, as you guys know, moved not too long ago and doesn't own a computer.
He tell everyone hello though, and that he really really misses talking to
all of you about Dokken and guitar playing. Robin is taking the week off
for personal reasons, but will be back next week! Good news from her though,
her husband, Frank, just got a killer job with J&J!! She just wanted me
to pass along her apologies for not being around for this issue.

It's been another slow week, so I don't have much to report to you guys!!
How about another thread? Musicians you would like to see one (or all)
of the guys in Dokken team up with. Right now, I think I would DIE to
see George team up with Carlos Santana for a song or two. I mean, could
you imagine the emotion that would come from the two of them? Yikes!!!
Also, I could see a bunch of cool combos coming out of teaming Dokken up
with the guys in King's X!! George and Ty, Doug and Don, Doug and Jeff..
the possibilities are endless... What do you think? Who would you like
to see the guys in Dokken work with?

See you next week!

Kirsten

Subject: Juan Croucier and Peter Baltes

I am not sure where I read it, probably a Circus or Hit Parader from the
mid-eighties, but an article on Dokken mentioned that Juan Croucier was
only on one or two songs on BTC. The article said that Peter Baltes from
Accept, and later Don's solo group, did all the bass tracks in a day. Juan
was playing with both Ratt and Dokken and he wasn't sure which band to stay
with. When they were putting together the album cover, the band asked Juan
if he was going to stay with them. Since Ratt wasn't signed at the time, he
said yes. Right afterwards, Ratt got signed and he decided to stick with
him, so they got Jeff. Does anybody else remember this?

David

[ Well, Peter played on the original German release of BTC, then Dokken
came back to the States, and Juan joined. They then redid and remixed
most of the album. Both bass players ended up on the US release I
  think! --KYD]

Favorite Dokken Songs??

DREAM WARRIORS
BURNING LIKE A FLAME
ALONE AGAIN
LOST BEHIND THE WALL
BACK FOR THE ATTACK
JUST GOT LUCKY
IN MY DREAMS
PARIS IS BURNING
KISS OF DEATH
THE MAZE
SHADOWS OF LIFE

This is in no particular order, but I will say "Dream Warriors" is my
absolute favorite. I was a big horror movie fan back when that came out and
I've always been somewhat of an insomniac, too, so it was practically my
theme song for years.

Here's hoping they play it next time they come around!! That was my *only*
problem with the set list when I saw them last summer!! :^)

[ Yeah, that's a greta tune!! One of the first videos I really got into.
I just thought it was the best video I had ever seen, especially the
part when they all look like zombies. --KYD]

Subject: RATT reunion

I was surprised to hear about the RATT reunion in BTC so I asked Juan if it was
true. He just wrote back to me to say it wasn't, at least not at this time.

See ya later!!! - G I D E O N ! ! !

Subject: Bass Players

I don't think Juan Croucier ever played on a Dokken album. I'm quite sure
that Peter Baltes (Accept and Don Dokken) played the bass on Breaking
the Chains.

Here's another Sammy idea. How about getting back together with Neal
Schon? They did an album back in 1983 called HSAS. This was just
released on CD. If you haven't heard it you should get it. It really rocks. I
have a video of their concert together. They wrote really good songs
and put on a great show. What does this have in common with Dokken?
Well, it's 4 guys who really rock and the singer is a good guitarist who
doesn't get to play much.

Enjoy what's left of summer,

Brad

Subject: just a few thoughts

First let me say thanks for the newsletters!...your doing a great job!
There's some great reading in those letters.

I just scored Dokken's "Back For The Attack" is the used bin for $5.99! Great
disc I might add, I can wait to wrap my ears around some Lynch Mob recordings
next! I hope there as good as the Dokken material.

I kinda noticed by reading the net and some comments from people on the
newsletter that a lot of old fans don't really like "Dysfunctional" because
the band changed it's sound. Now after hearing their '87 release BFTA, I
think "Dysfunctional" is a natural progression for the band and I actually
like it as well if not better! I hate to say the band is more "grown
up"...I've always hated the cliche since I'm an old rocker(30-ish) and refuse
to grow up!:) But "Dysfunctional" has some scorching riffs and the song
structures are great, Don's pipes sound clean and crisp...top shelf all the
way! At least they didn't change to alternagrunge like so many bands are
doing these days! Dysfunctional has grown on me like a fine tailored Italian
suit....not that I've ever worn one or ever will!:)...but it's a damn fine
disc that I play on a weekly basis. I can't wait for the new one. The thing
that struck me as being the most interesting between "BFTA" and
"Dysfunctional" is that the band has the same members ten years later, you
don't see that everyday! Anyway, I guess that fact that long time fans don't
have a lot of good things to say about their latest kinda disturbs me.
Anyway, give my best to the band and tell them the keep up the damn good work!

On the Andrew Elt subject, I say he'd fit in perfectly in VH!! I only own one
Sleeze Beez disc, "Screwed Blued and Tatooed", but judging from his vocals on
that disc he would be a great addition to VH! The Sleeze Beez have a similar
style to a lot of great melodic hard rock groups out there and Andy would fit
in VH's style just fine. His vocals are clean and powerful and he hits all
the ranges. The only thing I hate about hearing him auditioning for VH is the
possible breakup of the Beez! This band is great! Their new one "Insanity
Beach" is supposd to be a great effort, it's an import and sell for $30 or
so....to rich for my blood, but I'll probably get it some day. I hope the
best for Andy and his future...in VH or the Beez! Whatever happens, there's
bound to be some great rock generated from it.

Until next time.....Take care, and.....KEEP ROCKIN' WITH DOKKEN!!

Ken

[ I think Dysfunctional is a great album! yes, it's different, and I think
the next one will be more what Dokken is about, but Dysfunctional has some
of the most mature lyrics of any of the albums, and fine songwriting!! I
am looking forward to hearing more of George's input on the new one!! --KYD]

I noticed that in the track listing for Beast From The East the intro
to "Alone Again" was omitted. In case you didn't know, I read in an
interview, published right after the album came out, that the song is called
"Cry Again" and was originally supposed to be on Tooth And Nail but was cut
for some reason. I'm actually glad that they cut it. It just made it that
much cooler to hear it on Beast From The East. Just thought you might like
to know about this.

                                                           Dave

Subject: Question for Dokken guys

I have a question.

Do you think if we all (BTC'ers & Rocken Robin's group) were willing to pay
$30+ for a CD (with unreleased b-side material, that's not even available
on the Japanese CDs) that they (Dokken) would do it? It wouldn't even have
to be great quality (I'm sure that one of the guys, or a friend of theirs,
has some recording equipment sitting around). Just something special for
the BTC'ers & Rocken Robin's group. I'd be willing to pay even $100 for
some old or new b-side stuff!

Also, have you given it any thought to doing BTC in .pdf format. You could
have photos and everything (and we can still print it out). It's for mac
and windows and the file sizes are not that big (they are bigger than
e-mail but usually smaller than 1MB).

Just a couple of ideas!

Danny (metalhead@earthlink.net)

[ A B-sides CD would kick, wouldn't it? Who knows! Maybe we could see
something in the future... heck Sarah McLachlan and the Galactic Cowboys
put those out this year CD (or, will put them out...). As fas as another
format, I'm not familiar with that format at all! It could happen
though! I have some that Miguel Amorim redid for me, and I am still
trying to figure out how to get those on the web! *grin* --KYD]
