Q. What
is dokken.net?
A. dokken.net is the Official Web Site for the band Dokken.
The site stemmed from the Breaking the Chains newsletter (1992-2001)
in 1993. It has grown since then, and became the official web site
in 1995.
Q.
Who runs dokken.net?
A. Aaron Chavez , with
design and graphics provided by Mike
Coon, and help from many fans around the world. Aaron took over
for Kirsten (founder of Dokken Central) in 2001.
Q. What
ever happened to the BTC Online
newsletter?
A. Message Boards!! Basically, most fans hang out on the dokken.net
EZBoard and discuss the band there, so there hasn't really been
a need for the newsletter. Back in the day, not everyone was able
to get online and view the website, which meant we had a need for
an emailed newsletter. That isn't really the case any longer. You
can still read all of the interesting discussions on BTC in the BTC
Archive.
Q. Who should
I contact if I have information for the site (i.e., a new Dokken interview,
live pictures, etc.)?
A.
info@dokken.net or
photos@dokken.net
Q. Where
can I find the latest tour dates?
A. Just click this link to be taken
to the Tour Itinerary.
Q. Where
can I find guitar/bass tablature?
A. We have a small selection here. There
are also sites like OLGA that contain tab. George
Lynch's official website has tab, also.
Q. How can
I get pictures or autographed merchandise from the band?
A. dokken.net periodically has contests for this sort of stuff,
but we do not have a stash to give out to fans, unfortunately. Because
we have thousands hits, worldwide, on a daily basis, we cannot take
specific requests for this sort of stuff. The band is typically easy
to meet when on tour, so we suggest you get your autographs either
before the show (soundcheck) or after the show (tourbus).

Q. How did Dokken get together?
(aka, the story of Back In The Streets)
A. Don knew George and Mick from Xciter.
He got the chance to record in Germany, and liked one of the songs
George and Mick had written (Paris is Burning). He called and asked
them if he could use it, and they said 'No.' He recorded it anyway,
which lead to a record deal. He then asked Mick to play with him,
and asked if George could be in the band too. Since it was their song
that lead to Don's record deal, they decided to go. George and Mick
joined Don in Germany and recorded "Back in the Streets," with Peter
Baltes on bass. Juan Croucier joined later, when Dokken signed a US
deal.
Q. Why did Dokken break
up the first time?
A. The publicized reason was that George
and Don hated each other. I don't know if that's a very accurate way
to put it. The band had their problems, and the media never gave them
a break about it. The band didn't know how to properly work out their
differences, and they all had "substance abuse" issues at
the time, and because of that, were basically self destructing. Don
left the band after the Monsters of Rock tour in 1988, ending Dokken's
tenure in the 80's.
Q. Why did
they reunite in 1994?
A. Don and Jeff started talking about writing together in '93/'94,
and when Lynch Mob broke things off, Mick joined them. The three of
them realized that they were basically picking up the old pieces of
Dokken so gave George a call. He listened to the tapes, liked what
he heard, and decided to join up again. They felt they owed it to
the fans and that Dokken was unfinished business. They were then signed
by Columbia Records for a US deal.
Q. Was George
Lynch fired, or did he quit?
A. It depends on who you ask. After the Shadowlife tour, tensions
were again high in the band. George wasn't happy, the rest of Dokken
wasn't happy, so they asked him to leave. George was headed in a completely
different direction musically, a direction that didn't fit the Dokken
mould. He formed a new version of Lynch Mob and recorded Smoke This.
Dokken continued on with Reb Beach on guitar.
Q. What
the heck happened with Reb Beach?
A. Reb joined Dokken in late 1998, and helped write and record
Erase the Slate. The band toured to support the album, recorded a
few of the shows for a live album (Live From the Sun), which was released
on both CD and DVD. After their 2000 tour with Poison, Reb wanted
to concentrate on his solo efforts, and a possible reunion with Winger.
He also didn't want to continue on as a "hired gun" with
Dokken. As a result, he left the band in late 2000. John Norum was
then asked to step in as the newest guitarist for Dokken.
Q. OK, then,
what's the deal with the current lineup? (Don, Mick, John and Barry
Sparks)
A. In 2001, Jeff Pilson had his hands full with many different
projects, including Underground Moon, ZuZu Ltd. and the Rock Star
movie. Don wanted to continue with the new Dokken album, and claims
Jeff never returned any of his calls about writing and recording with
Dokken. Jeff says he did call Don, and that he had set aside time
in his busy schedule to write and record with Dokken. Somewhere along
the line, Don decided he didn't want to wait, and brought in Barry
Sparks to record bass on the latest Dokken LP. Jeff took this as a
not so subtle hint that he was no longer in the band.
Q. Will
the soap opera ever end?
A. Probaby not... but that's what keeps it interesting!
Q. How can I find out what
albums the former/current members of Dokken have played on?
A. Check out the Soundboard
for a complete list.
Q. How can I get ahold of
bootlegs?
A. dokken.net does NOT support selling bootlegs (i.e., on eBay!),
but we have no problem with trading them. One great source is Scott
Daughtry's Live Dokken site.
Q. Where can I purchase imports?
A. Most online music stores (CD
Now, Amazon.com)
are getting good about carrying imports. Also, eBay
is a great resource for hard to find items, or anything that's out
of print.
Q. What songs have Dokken
made into music videos?
A. Breaking the Chains, Into the Fire,
Just Got Lucky, Along Again, The Hunter, It's Not Love, In My Dreams,
Dream Warriors, Burning Like a Flame, Heaven Sent, Walk Away, and
Nothing to Say. There is a Dokken home video called Unchains the Night,
which includes all of these videos except Dream Warriors, Burning
Like A Flame, Heaven Sent and Walk Away. There is also a home video
of the Semi-unplugged show in CA from Decemeber '94 called One Live
Night, and a live DVD from 2000 called Live From the Sun.
Q. Are any of the members
of Dokken online?
A. Most of the guys have their own official websites. The links
can be found on their bio pages.
